UN Aviation Meeting Representatives Agree on Goal of 5 Percent Lower Emissions by 2030

(Dubai, UAE) At a meeting of more than 100 countries participating in the United Nations (U.N.)-led Conference on Aviation and Alternative Fuels (CAAF), global aviation officials agreed on an interim target of reducing emissions from international aviation by 5% by 2030.

The CAAF was debating a goal to cut emissions from international aviation by 5%-8% through the use of less polluting fuels, according to a proposal released by organizers.
While not binding, some nations said such pledges could encourage critical investments needed to ramp up SAF production, which now amounts to less than 1% of total jet fuel.
Industry estimates hold that it will take between $1.45 trillion and $3.2 trillion in financing for SAF capital development to achieve the aviation sector’s ultimate net zero emissions goal, according to Reuters.
