Million Air Albany & Albany County Airport Announce Supply of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) On-site
Million Air Albany received its first truckload of sustainable aviation fuel on June 18, marking the initiation of the first consistent SAF supply for a general aviation airport in New York State, according to the FBO.
(Albany, New York) Fixed base operator (FBO) Million Air Albany and the Albany County Airport Authority announced today (Jul. 1) that Million Air has begun offering physical sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) onsite, marking the first consistent supply of SAF at a general aviation (GA) airport in New York State, according to a social media post from Million Air Albany.

The first truckload of SAF was received at the airport on June 18th. The sustainable fuel is being supplied by Avfuel, according to Million Air Albany.
Previously, in June of 2022, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) producer Neste (HEX: NESTE) announced that it delivered SAF for the first time to New York’s Laguardia Airport (LGA) through the Colonial and Buckeye pipeline systems in order to power a Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) flight, marking the first time SAF was delivered to New York – and the first delivery of SAF for a commercial (non-GA) flight in New York – using existing petroleum pipelines.
Given the location of the majority of sustainable aviation fuel refineries outside of the Northeast United States, FBOs in New York and the surrounding area currently rely primarily on book-and-claim mechanisms for sustainable fuel purchases, whereby SAF on a flight from a location with an onsite supply of physical SAF is used to fuel an amount equivalent to the desired amount on a remote (offsite) book-and-claim SAF purchaser’s flight, and the remote purchaser of the SAF therefore gets credit for purchasing and using the sustainable aviation fuel.
