Cirrus Introduces SR Series G7+ Featuring Safe Return™ Emergency Autoland
The Cirrus SR Series G7+ is the world’s first single-engine piston aircraft equipped with an FAA-approved autonomous emergency landing system, according to the company.
(Duluth, Minnesota) Single-engine aircraft manufacturer Cirrus Aircraft announced today its new SR Series G7+ featuring Safe Return™ Emergency Autoland by Garmin®, which, according to the Cirrus, is the world’s first FAA-approved autonomous emergency landing system in a single-engine piston aircraft.

Integration of Cirrus’s new emergency autoland technology enables anyone in an SR-20 or SR-22 cabin to activate Safe Return™ Emergency Autoland with the touch of a button in the event of an emergency — the feature automatically commands the aircraft to navigate to a suitable nearby airport and land autonomously, according to today’s press release from Cirrus.

Cirrus Aviation has manufactured more than 10,000 SR-series aircraft and its airplanes have logged more than 17 million flight hours since 1999, according to the company. Prior to the introduction of its new Emergency Autoland System, the company’s most recent, major safety initiative – which also became standard equipment within Cirrus’s fleet in 2022 – was the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System® (CAPS®) , a ballistic parachute recovery system.
Additional new features introduced in Cirrus’s SR Series G7+ include:
- Automatic Database Updates enabled by Cirrus IQ PRO™ for pilot convenience,
- Runway Occupancy Awareness for safety and
- Smart Pitot Heat powered by the Perspective Touch+™ flight deck for reduced pilot workload
