Two months after raising $430 million, Archer has raised an additional $300 million to accelerate its hybrid aircraft platform development, with defense opportunities looking stronger than expected, per the company.

(San Jose, California) Electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) developer Archer Aviation (NYSE: ACHR) announced this morning that it has raised $301.75 million – in a funding round that includes leading institutional investors, including funds and accounts managed by BlackRock (NYSE: BLK) – positioning the company to accelerate the development of its hybrid aircraft platform for the defense market.

The raise brings Archer’s total liquidity position to about $1 billion; the company noted in its press release this morning that it maintains one of the strongest balance sheets in the eVTOL industry, and this additional capital further strengthens its position.

Archer launched Archer Defense in December of 2024 to develop next-generation aircraft for defense applications, and the first product from this division is planned to be a hybrid-propulsion, vertical take-off-and-landing (vTOL) vehicle developed in partnership with Anduril.

Archer’s Founder and CEO Adam Goldstein said, “I believe the opportunity for advanced vertical lift aircraft across defense appears to be substantially larger than I originally expected. As a result, we are raising additional capital to help us invest in critical capabilities like composites and batteries to help enable us to capture this opportunity and more.”

Shares of Archer Aviation are trading down 10.29% at $9.13 pre-market as of the time of publication of this article at 8.55 a.m EST.
